How Emsella works

1. Private consultation

Our Registered Nurse reviews your history and goals with you, and tells you plainly whether Emsella is a good fit.

2. Fully clothed treatment

You sit comfortably in the chair for 28 minutes while focused electromagnetic energy stimulates the pelvic floor muscles. No undressing, no exam.

3. Review and next-step plan

A typical protocol is six sessions over three weeks. Your progress is reviewed, and the plan mapped out together.

Before you book

Am I a candidate for Emsella?

Emsella is suited to most adults experiencing stress, urge or mixed urinary incontinence, including postpartum and menopause-related pelvic floor weakness. It may not be appropriate for patients who are pregnant or who have certain implanted electronic or metal devices. Our RN reviews your full medical history and confirms suitability during your private consultation.

Is it painful, or embarrassing?

You remain fully clothed for the entire session, seated in a chair. Most patients describe the sensation as a strong, rhythmic tingling rather than pain. There is no undressing, no positioning and no one else present.

Can my consultation be by video?

Yes! Your first conversation with our nurse is by video by default. If you would prefer to come in, in-person consultations are available on the days she is in the clinic. Just ask when booking.

Can treatment sessions be done by video too?

No. Your consultation can be done by video, but Emsella treatment requires the chair and is always delivered in person at Pacifica MD in Qualicum Beach.

How soon will I notice a difference?

Many patients notice initial improvement in bladder control after two to three sessions, with continued strengthening through the full six-session protocol and in the weeks that follow. Results vary by individual.

Do I remain fully clothed?

Yes, for the entire session. You sit on the chair fully dressed in your own street clothes for 28 minutes. There is no gown, no exam and no preparation required.

Can it help after childbirth?

Yes! Timing depends on your delivery and recovery, and on being medically cleared first. Once you have been cleared, our RN will review your history and advise on timing, and on whether Emsella may complement pelvic floor exercises or other postpartum care you are already receiving.

Can men use Emsella?

Yes! Emsella is licensed in Canada for both men and women, including men experiencing incontinence following prostate surgery. Your consultation is the same one-to-one format regardless of gender.

Can pelvic floor therapy improve sexual wellness, not just bladder control?

Yes! Pelvic floor muscles play a role in sexual function and confidence for both women and men, and some patients pursue Emsella partly for this reason. Results vary, and our nurse can help you understand whether it is likely to help in your situation, or whether another form of care would be more appropriate.

Does Emsella replace Kegels or pelvic floor physiotherapy?

Not necessarily. For many patients it complements them rather than replacing them. Kathleen will discuss how Emsella fits alongside any pelvic floor physiotherapy or exercise routine you already follow.

Will I need maintenance sessions?

Your full package includes three complimentary maintenance sessions. Beyond those, maintenance is booked as needed and reassessed with your RN.

Do you serve patients from Parksville and Nanaimo?

Yes! We regularly see patients from Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Nanaimo and across central Vancouver Island. A video consultation makes the first conversation straightforward, no matter where you live.
