Are you bothered by pigmentation and brow spots on your skin? Our team at Pacifica MD can help.
Melanin is a colored pigment that our skin produces, similar to natural sunscreen, to protect us against UVs. The skin cells responsible for producing melanin are called melanocytes. Melanocytes are influenced by a variety of factors, some of which are external (e.g. sun or UV damage) and some that are internal (e.g. hormone imbalances, inflammation, etc.).
Sometimes melanin production can increase temporarily but sometimes these color changes become permanent. These are called lentigines, or more commonly known as sun spots or age spots, and occur most frequently on the face, décolleté, and back of hands. Sometimes acne spots or scars can also result in darker spots as some melanin pigment can become trapped in the scar tissue.
Some brown spots or other pigmentation issues are more treatable than others – Book your complimentary skin consultation to determine which treatment modalities are recommended for your particular situation.
